It’s sad to know that almost all the Bhutanese bloggers are blogging in free blogging platforms.
It’s sad because I have already told the importance of opening a self-hosted WordPress blog.
People who are having blogs in those free platforms will soon discard their blogs and leave blogging world altogether.
They won’t find reasons to continue blogging. They won’t get freelance works, product review articles writing orders, and affiliate marketing commissions.
In simple word, people running their blogs in free platforms cannot make money out of their blogs. It’s due to this that people gradually don’t feel the urge to keep blogging.
To change this, you have to first come out from those free platforms and then start a self-hosted WordPress blog.
It’s then and only then, your journey of serious blogging starts. If you still don’t know the processes, let me explain from the start.
USD Debit Card
When you start a self-hosted WordPress blog, you have to do some online payment. For this you need a USD Debit Card. Bank of Bhutan Ltd (BoBL) issues that in your saving account.
In principle, Credit Card should also work for such purposes. But no bank in Bhutan issues credit card that actually works online.
Better get a USD Debit Card from BoBL. It works same. Indeed it’s better. You don’t have to pay interest unlike in credit cards.
Plan your blog
Prepare a skeletal structure of your blog. Select the most appropriate niche (blogging focus), audience and marketing plan. You may also set budget.
Pick a Domain
Domain is a name of your blog that follows after www. In my case, it’s www.bhutanics.com. Pick the best domain for your blog.
The domain you want may not be available. Check whether it’s taken or available on eHost. Keep your domain name short, catchy, niche related and easy.
You are choosing the storage for your blog’s contents here. There are many hosting companies who are ever ready to host your blogs.
But you are responsible to choose the best one that offers a plan suitable for you. Be careful. Everything hosting companies say won’t be there when you actually use.
If you ask me which one to choose, I would recommend eHost. I am suggesting out of my experience of hosting my blog with it.
Select a Theme
The theme you use determines the overall design and appearance of your blog. There are literally many themes. They are either free or premium (paid).
But I don’t suggest using free themes. They contain completed codes and allow limited customization. Free themes will cost you.
When I started my blog, I have purchased a theme from Theme Junkie. They have good themes at low prices.
Later I came to know some good themes from My ThemeShop. They are also good.
Once all above things are done, you are said to have all the things required for making your blog go-live over internet.
There are some works to be done after your blog has been launched. They are installing of Plugins, theme customization, and content monetization activities.
However, they are something that can be done in the due course of blogging. This is just a short guide.
